Thursday thoughts #1: am I still a runner?

Thursday thoughts are meant to be my regular musings on a particular topic, something I’m thinking about, or just a stream of consciousness that I feel comfortable letting out into the world. Since these tend to be a bit more personal, the full posts will only be available for paid subscribers.

I tried a new Pilates studio the other day (I want to gatekeep but I won’t: The Wellness Den on the UES is fantastic), and the instructor asked the typical question of, what brings you here today? My answer: well, I used to be a runner, but I’m trying to focus on gentle movement, resistance training that will benefit me more as I age, my body hurts, etc.

I used to be a runner. Huh.
That’s probably the third time I’ve said that in so many weeks, too. The evidence would support it, though: I haven’t run more than once a week in months (and those runs have walk breaks!). Heck, I haven’t run at all in the last few weeks. What’s weird is that I haven’t thought about it that much, and even my three years ago self would be freaking out right now if that were the case. My ten years ago self, don’t even get her started because it would be the end of the world as she knew it.
