Nutrition/Wellness/Running: April favorites
I honestly couldn’t tell you where the month of April went, aside from my visit to Boston to see my sister and spectate the marathon, which was of course amazing, and some lovely walks with Peanut in Central Park. But, here’s a little review of some things I’ve been into this past month.
Peanut with spring flowers in Central Park. can you even handle how cute she is
Run Fast Eat Slow Kale Radicchio Salad with Farro
I truly have an on again, off again relationship with this salad. I will be really into it for a month or two, then not want to even think about for several months after. We are currently “on,” in that I can’t get enough of it. I’ve been making a big batch for lunches for my husband and I, along with some roasted chicken thighs for a bit more protein.
SuperGoop Unseen Sunscreen
It’s starting to get a lot brighter on my morning runs and afternoon Peanut walks, and even though my moisturizer has SPF I like to add a little extra protection with this stuff (it’s SPF 40). I love it because it feels super light and not at all pore-cloggy (a word I perhaps just made up).
GT’s Peach Paradise Kombucha
This is a new-to-me flavor and I am obsessed with it - not to sweet and super delicious. I don’t really drink alcohol much (and this is a reminder to myself to write a separate post about alcohol!), but pour this into a small glass for something tasty and fancy-feeling to sip on in the early evening. My dietitian self would also like to point out that it is of course also a good source of gut-friendly probiotics.
Half marathon training
I signed up for a half marathon at the end of May (on my birthday, so it happens), and have really been enjoying training. I have been practicing what I preach and fueling on long runs (every ~30 or so minutes) and it’s working really well. I have no real expectations for the race time-wise, other than to try for a new “Masters” PR.
What I’m watching: Succession
Oh my god. I don’t know why or how it has taken so long for my husband and I to get into the show, but we’re hooked. We are on season 3 and therefore, it’s been hard to avoid spoilers, but we are doing our best. You can’t make a tomlette without breaking some greggs, lol.
What I’m reading
I read both Kara Goucher’s new book and Des Linden’s memoir this month, and neither took me more than 48 hours. They were both just so good. Kara’s story is really heartbreaking, and although I knew Alberto Salazar was a cheating scumbag, the experiences she outlines takes it to a whole different level. As for Des’ book, I really liked the way she wove in her life story along with scenes from her Boston win in 2018. 5 stars for both.
Local shoutouts
Not much on the restaurant front this month, that I can remember. Though the New York Times just came out with their “100 Best Restaurants in New York City 2023” list a few weeks ago. I am dying to try Tatiana, constantly checking Via Carota for reservations, and really want to make it down to Frenchette and Le Coucou at some point soon.
I’m not a big museum person, but we did visit MoMA to see the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit, which was lovely.
My kind of museum is more along the lines of the new Tiffany Landmark store reopening on 57th and Fifth last week, which truly does seem like a work of art. Jewelry is my love language, and I definitely plan on visiting soon.
I’ll probably send out a reminder, but the newsletter with be on a short hiatus next week as I will be on vacation with my sister and things have been a bit too busy around here to plan ahead. Thanks for reading!
