Things I've learned: 10 years as an RD

kellyhoganrd.substack.com

February 28 marked 10 years since I passed the RD exam and became a dietitian. Nutrition and dietetics are a second career for me - I didn’t become an RD until I was 30 - the first career being in public relations here in New York. Because I went back to school while I was working full time, and the amount of school/education it takes to become a dietitian, the road to becoming an RD was a long (and very expensive!) one. I was so sure about my career change decision, though, and so passionate about nutrition, that I never once questioned my decision and the crazy amount of work I was doing.

Fast forward to now, and it’s hard to even remember my past career. It’s also astonishing to think about just how much has changed in both the nutrition profession in general and myself as a nutrition professional. I’ve been thinking about all of the things I’ve learned working in clinical nutrition and now private practice a lot lately, so thought I would reflect back a bit here too.
