What I'm loving: May/June
The last two months have been a whirlwind of travel and starting a new job, so this feels a little belated! Here are a few things I've been into lately:
Strength training/missing running
I know I've talked about trying to strength train more often, and this past month have really upped my game for a few reasons. One, I got really sick after my Portugal trip (unclear if it was COVID but likely?) and running has felt really hard since (but slowwwly starting to feel better). Just like when I got COVID last year, my heart rate has been quite high for very easy paces so I’ve put running on the back burner. It kind of stinks because I wasn’t able to run a planned half marathon on my birthday, and don’t feel ready to think about training for anything yet, even though the motivation is there. Meantime, I’m doing more strength training, which feels much better physically. Plus, aside from being 41 now and wanting to maintain as much muscle mass as I can, it's sometimes easier to do a Peloton strength class before my early work days at the hospital than it is to run (i.e., no hair washing required). So here we are.

Hu Kitchen Cashew Butter + Raspberry Dark Chocolate
I know, these chocolate bars are sort of trendy and prohibitively expensive, but the display at the checkout line in Whole Foods finally got me and I have to admit they are incredibly delicious.
Montana
My husband and I went to Bozeman, Montana for a wedding last week, and I loved everything about being in the mountains and seeing friends. There were some great trails near where we were staying, and despite the altitude and above struggles, I felt pretty awesome on my runs. Being there really reminded me how much I enjoy running and generally being outside in a quiet, non-New York City environment (and there were so many dogs!). As a big jewelry person, I also learned there is such a thing as Montana sapphire, and they are quite pretty.
Martha Stewart's Skillet Chicken with Leeks and Carrots
My sister was Peanut-sitting while we were away, and made my husband and I this meal when we got home from Montana. It was so delicious, and the recipe is simple and straightforward. It's a great way to get quality protein in with a somewhat unsung hero of the veggie world - leeks! They're a great source of fiber and anti-inflammatory antioxidants.
Electrolytes
I’ve been talking a lot with my runner clients about electrolytes this summer as our runs get hotter and sweatier. There are a lot of electrolyte supplements out there now with varying levels of sodium (i.e., the most important electrolyte to replenish!), and I plan on branching out from my Nuun to try some higher sodium versions as I am a super sweaty and salty runner. LMNT and Skratch High Sodium mix are on my list.
Away "Bigger" Carry-On suitcase
Since I've been traveling a lot lately, I'm very grateful for this suitcase. It wheels easily, fits in every overhead compartment I've tried and packs a lot of stuff. I also have it in a cute pink color, which of course I love.
Birkenstocks
It’s that time of year, for me at least. I’m super prone to plantar fasciitis so pretty much live in Birkenstocks during the summer months. They are so comfortable and I’m glad (somewhat?) fashionable. This summer I’m due for a new pair of classic Arizona sandals, and also got these cute pink Madrid sandals (on sale!).
Random shoutouts
These aren’t limited to local this time since I’ve been away so much!
JetBlue has direct flights from JFK to Bozeman in the summer and winter months. 100% worth it if you’re in NYC, want to visit Montana but really don’t like layovers.
The Little Beet is a fast-casual, veggie-forward restaurant close to the hospital I work at, and I’m very into it right now.
While in Montana, we had breakfast at Jam (on Main Street) almost every morning. It, and it’s omelets, is delicious
When my sister and I were in Portugal, we had a great lunch at Honest Greens, which only has locations in Lisbon, Porto, Madrid and Barcelona. I’m not sure why there are none in the U.S., but they put Sweetgreen to shame (sorry I said it).
My husband and I plan to see the Lagerfeld exhibit this weekend at the Met, finally. It ends July 16!
